A constructive conflict resolution depends largely on clear, open, and honest communication.

Conflict occurs when two or more people disagree about an issue or situation. Conflict is a crystallized form of friction or discord that arises within a group when one or more members' beliefs or actions are either resisted by or unacceptable to one or more members of another group.

Conflict is unavoidable and often beneficial. Discomfort is not the same as conflict. Conflict is not a problem unless it is poorly managed.

In short, Conflict:

  1. happens all the time;

  2. is part of everyday life;

  3. occurs across all age groups;

  4. can happen to anyone;

  5. can be personal or global;

  6. has may different causes;

  7. can escalate, if not resolved;

  8. is not always negative;

  9. can be solved in different ways.

10 Conflict Resolution Strategies

  1. Choose a suitable time and location for your conversation.

  2. Commit to finding a solution that meets everyone's needs.

  3. Pay close attention and relate what you've heard.

  4. Maintain your cool and avoid becoming defensive.

  5. Discuss the issues, not the people.

  6. Use the "I Statement."

  7. Recognize areas of agreement.

  8. Describe your feelings.

  9. Be specific in your description of what you require.

  10. Be open to unconventional solutions.

A positive conflict resolution is heavily reliant on clear, open, and honest communication. A conflict can never be resolved unless all parties express themselves to each other rationally and logically.
